Eli's Caffe

Since 2005 · Nik Orosi

Overview

Eli's Caffe (Eliscaffe) opened on Ilica 63 in Zagreb on 7 September 2005 as Croatia's first specialty coffee bar, founded by Nik Orosi — four-time Croatian Barista Champion (2006, 2007, 2008, 2013) and 2008 World Baristas Choice Award winner in Copenhagen. Orosi added Croatia's first specialty coffee roastery in 2009, published the design-award-nominated 'NO LOGO / JUST TASTE' book in 2011, and runs the cafe as a non-smoking, single-blend-led space sourcing from Ethiopia, Colombia, Brazil and Rwanda; outside coffee he records electronic music for M.I.N.E. Records.

  • 2008 World Baristas Choice Award (Copenhagen)

  • Slogan: 'no logo / just taste'

Why it matters

Eli's Caffe is Croatia's specialty coffee origin point — the cafe and roastery that everything else in Zagreb measures itself against. Orosi's barista championships and his 'NO LOGO / JUST TASTE' philosophy gave the country a template for specialty coffee that pre-dates the Cogito generation by nearly a decade.
