- E-commerce direct-to-consumer in Iraq
Why it matters
Iraq's coffeehouse culture is one of the world's oldest — the first Baghdadi coffeehouse opened in 1590 — but the post-2003 specialty wave needed roasting infrastructure rebuilt from near-zero. Italian Coffee Company was the first dedicated specialty coffee operation in the post-war commercial landscape and predates the FrescaVita-and-Shaghf wave concentrated in Erbil and Baghdad.
