Bean & Bean is a mother-daughter Q Grader operation founded in 2008 by Rachel and Jiyoon Han, micro-batch roasting at a Queens roastery and running four cafes across NYC and northern New Jersey. The line is USDA Organic across the board, with more than half of total sourcing coming from women-led or woman-owned farms — a gender-equity sourcing mandate that's operationalized rather than marketed.
Mother-daughter Q Grader teams are vanishingly rare in US specialty, and Bean & Bean's gender-equity mandate is one of the few sourcing programs in the country that ties the percentage to its supply chain rather than treating it as marketing language. The original 2008 Financial District location was also among NYC's earliest on-site micro-batch roasting cafes.
