Dogwood Coffee Company

Since 2010 · Dan Anderson, Greg Hoyt

Overview

Dogwood was founded in 2010 in Minneapolis by Dan Anderson and Greg Hoyt — Anderson left commercial real estate, Hoyt brought commodity coffee industry experience — and roasts on a Probat at its Tyler Street NE roastery, where production is visible behind a glass wall. In 2016 the company opened a second roasting and training facility in Winnipeg's Exchange District, partly to bypass customs delays that were holding up beans destined for Canadian wholesale accounts.

Known for

  • Twin Cities specialty pioneer with three Minneapolis/St. Paul cafes plus a Winnipeg roastery
  • Iconic Neon espresso blend, focused on sweetness rather than bite
  • "Coffee for Others" mission emphasizing value to everyone in the supply chain
  • Named Best Coffee Roastery in Minnesota by Food & Wine
  • Preference for washed coffees as a stylistic signature

Why it matters

Dogwood is the de facto flagship of Minneapolis specialty coffee — frequently cited as the Twin Cities entry on national best-roaster lists — and one of relatively few US specialty roasters that has expanded into Canada with its own roasting infrastructure rather than just wholesale shipping.
