Filosofi Kopi is the rare coffee shop that began as a movie set: in 2015, director Angga Dwimas Sasongko built a working café in Blok M, South Jakarta to film the adaptation of Dee Lestari's 2006 short story 'Filosofi Kopi,' then kept it open afterwards alongside actors Rio Dewanto and Chicco Jerikho. The Melawai shop and a sister Yogyakarta location built around traditional joglo houses serve three signature beans named after the story's characters — Lestari, Perfecto, and Tiwus.
Bridges Indonesia's specialty coffee renaissance and its mainstream pop culture — for many Indonesians it was the entry point from instant coffee to single-origin Arabica.
