Overview

Kitchen Coffee Roasters, known locally as KCR, is a Minsk-based specialty roastery, café, importer and barista school operating from a converted Soviet-era factory complex on Oktyabrskaya Street, just up the river from the city centre. Its head roaster has won the Belarusian brewing championship multiple times and finished third at the World AeroPress Championship, which has made KCR the de facto training pipeline for the Belarusian specialty scene.

Why it matters

Belarus is one of the few European countries where specialty coffee is still genuinely emergent rather than mainstream, and the political constraints of doing business there make every operation harder than its EU peers. KCR's combination of roastery, importer and barista school under one roof in the Oktyabrskaya factory district is functionally the country's specialty infrastructure — it is where Belarusian baristas are trained, where its competitors prepare for international championships, and where the green coffee enters the country's small specialty market.
