Klatch Coffee

Since 1993 · Mike Perry, Cindy Perry

Overview

Klatch was founded in 1993 by Mike and Cindy Perry as 'Coffee Klatch' at the Thomas Winery Plaza in Rancho Cucamonga; Mike, a UC Riverside biochemical engineering graduate, began in-house roasting in 1997 on a Diedrich IR-24 in their San Dimas cafe and developed what the family calls the 'peak of flavor' method. Klatch's espresso won Best Espresso in the World at the 2007 World Barista Championship and Roast Magazine named it Micro Roaster of the Year in 2009; daughter Heather Perry, two-time U.S. Barista Champion and former SCA President, now serves as CEO.

Why it matters

Klatch is one of Southern California's heritage specialty roasters, a family-run operation that scaled from a single Rancho Cucamonga cafe into a Los Angeles–region brand without ceding sourcing or roasting control. Heather Perry's tenure as SCA President and two U.S. Barista Championship titles place the company at the institutional core of American specialty coffee.
