Letefoho Specialty Coffee Roaster

Since 2014

Overview

Letefoho Specialty Coffee Roaster opened on Dili's Beach Road in June 2014 as part of the Café Brisa Serena (CBS) social-impact organization, sourcing organic coffee directly from smallholder farmers in the Letefoho subdistrict of Ermera high in Timor-Leste's mountains. CBS exports boutique small lots to small-and-medium roasters globally and runs a coffee-tourism guesthouse program in Letefoho village to bring visitors directly to origin.

Known for

  • Timor-Leste FIRST and leading specialty roaster
  • direct sourcing from Letefoho subdistrict, Ermera
  • Café Brisa Serena social-impact parent
  • coffee tourism: guesthouse + farm visits in Letefoho
  • AeroPress, cold drip, hand-drip brew menu
  • small-lot exports to international specialty roasters

Why it matters

Timor-Leste's coffee economy is overwhelmingly export-green-bean to international roasters (Starbucks Conservation Coffee program among the largest historic buyers). Letefoho Specialty Coffee was the first operation to retain value on-island — buying directly from Letefoho farmers, roasting in Dili, and selling cup-up at retail rather than exporting raw. The Café Brisa Serena guesthouse model in Letefoho turns coffee tourism into a smallholder development pathway.
