Olympia Coffee Roasting Company

Since 2005 · Oliver Stormshak, Sam Schroeder

Overview

Olympia Coffee was founded by Oliver Stormshak and Sam Schroeder as a wholesale roaster on a 12-kilo Diedrich, and now operates seven cafes plus Moonrise Bakery across Olympia, Tacoma, and Seattle. It was named Roast Magazine's Micro Roaster of the Year in 2013, and Stormshak's Fair For All program — independently audited by Enveritas — sets a higher transparency bar than most direct-trade claims.

Known for

  • Roast Magazine Micro Roaster of the Year (2013)
  • Fair For All sourcing program — independently audited by Enveritas
  • Certified B Corporation
  • Multiple top placements at U.S. Barista, Brewers Cup, and Coffee in Good Spirits Championships
  • 70kg Loring at the main roastery; 23kg Gothot for smaller batches
  • Oliver's Custom Coffee — high-end side label launched 2024

Why it matters

A heritage Pacific Northwest roaster that rejected the typical industry pattern of growing on volume and instead built its identity around independently-audited supply chain transparency. The Fair For All program — verified by a third party rather than self-attested — is one of the more credible answers in specialty coffee to skepticism around 'direct trade' marketing claims.
