Overview
Slipstream opened its original Logan Circle cafe at 1333 14th Street NW in 2014 — a family-owned, multi-roaster coffee bar and cocktail concept founded by Ryan, who had worked in finance in San Francisco before relocating to D.C. and spending two years on coffee education before launching. The first space shared a building with Fathom Creative and partnered with MadCap Coffee (Grand Rapids) as principal roaster; Slipstream has since added Capitol Riverfront and downtown locations and built its identity around 'low resistance' barista-led service designed to eliminate the stress of ordering specialty coffee.

Why it matters
Slipstream is one of the early examples of the coffee-and-cocktail hybrid that has become a template for premium American cafes — open from morning espresso through evening drinks in the same space, with a service philosophy built around demystifying specialty coffee for non-enthusiasts.
