Snake River Roasting Co.

Since 2007 · Ruth Ann Petroff, Mark Barron

Overview

Snake River Roasting Co. was founded in 2007 by Ruth Ann Petroff and her husband Mark Barron, who pivoted out of running the Hard Drive Cafe internet cafe to focus on roasting coffee that captured the Jackson Hole landscape they'd built their lives around. After 14 years of growing the wholesale and subscription business, they sold to longtime top customer Mekki Jaidi (founder of vacation-rental operator Outpost) in late 2021, and his team opened the company's first-ever cafe in Jackson's Town Square in August 2022 — a 3,000-square-foot split-level space anchoring Wyoming's specialty coffee scene.

Known for

  • Wyoming's flagship specialty coffee roaster (2007)
  • 3,000-sq-ft Town Square cafe with 25-foot ceilings — Jackson Hole's specialty coffee anchor (opened 2022)
  • SCA-certified roasting, brewing, and barista team
  • White Spider blend signature
  • Founder Mark Barron also serves as Teton County Commissioner; Petroff active on local nonprofit boards

Why it matters

Snake River put a serious roastery into a state with effectively no specialty infrastructure, and the founders' careful succession to a longtime client — rather than a private equity rollup — kept the brand and team intact through the rare ownership change that didn't gut the original mission.
