Drink Coffee Do Stuff

Since 2017 · Nick Visconti

Overview

DCDS was founded in 2017 in Truckee by former pro snowboarder Nick Visconti, after the brand's mantra 'extraordinary coffee leads to an extraordinary life' first occurred to him on the Saas-Fee glacier in the Swiss Alps in 2012. The company roasts at 6,000 feet in the Sierra Nevada — exclusively sourcing from mountain-grown farms at similar elevations — and grew from a single-roaster operation to nationwide grocery distribution (150+ Whole Foods, Safeway, Raley's, Bel Air, Nugget) plus retail cafes in Incline Village and Truckee plus a multi-store partnership with the Coffee Shop chain across the East Bay.

Known for

  • High-altitude roasting at 6,000 ft Lake Tahoe
  • Mountain-grown sourcing from equivalent elevations only
  • Founder Nick Visconti — former pro snowboarder
  • Tips Up Tahoe blend (ski-themed naming)
  • Truckee cafe Hall of Fame wall featuring local Olympians

Why it matters

DCDS made altitude itself the brand thesis, creating a category-of-one specialty roaster whose entire sourcing-and-production logic is geographic elevation matching — a positioning that lets it own the active-outdoor demographic and the Reno/Tahoe/Sacramento corridor that San Francisco roasters had largely ignored.
