Hard Beans Coffee Roasters opened in 2017 in Opole as the production arm of Kofeina Art Cafe, which was crowned Best Specialty Coffee Shop in Poland by SCA Poland in 2016. Founded by Krzysztof Barabosz (head of coffee, head roaster) and Artur Porada from the Kofeina team — alongside CEO and co-founder Marcin Kucia — the operation runs from a 600 m² facility near Opole train station with Diedrich and Giesen roasters. Hard Beans developed and patented the HardTank fast nitro cold-brew technology in 2020 with the Opole University of Technology, and the system has since been spun off as a separate global equipment brand.
Hard Beans is the production layer of what was already Poland's most awarded specialty café (Kofeina), and is one of the five most recognizable specialty coffee brands in Poland by trade-press counts. The HardTank invention — born from a collaboration with Opole University of Technology — went on to win SCA Best New Product (Commercial Cold Brew) and is the rare case of a roastery generating its own globally exported equipment IP. For a Polish or Central European listing, Hard Beans alongside HAYB and Doubleshot rounds out the regional flagship cluster.
